Summer Intensive

The Ephyras Sleep Away Summer Intensive offers two transformative weeks of immersive dance-theater training led by distinguished faculty from some of New York City’s most celebrated institutions. Each day is designed to challenge, inspire, and expand young artists through a diverse schedule of classes in ballet, modern, hip-hop, Afrobeats, competition-style jazz (leaps and turns), acting, improvisation, and voice.

Throughout the intensive, students collaborate to create original work that culminates in a fully produced final showcase—an exciting celebration of their growth, artistry, and imagination.

Campers enjoy delicious and nourishing meals prepared by a dedicated on-site chef, with full accommodation for allergies and dietary needs. Evenings wind down with classic camp traditions—group games, campfires, s’mores, and joyful community time—before waking to another full day of training, creativity, and summer magic.

Meals

Campers will stay in yurts and large canvas bell tents on the campsite in small groups (3-6 campers), dependent on the enrollment size of the camp. Groups assignments will be announced before camp!

Additionally, any medication/medical needs will be met. Please contact us with any questions. theephyras@creaturespace.nyc.

Accommodations

Pending the needs of the campers, students may either all meet on-site at the designated time. OR, we ask parent volunteers to assist in transporting students upstate. We will all meet at our home studio, Creature Space, and carpool together. Details announced after complete registration.

Travel

Students may NOT bring any electronics to this experience. We wholeheartedly believe in the benefits of unplugging during the camp experience, and enforcing very limited electronics use. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with one another, themselves, dance, and nature. All staff on-site will have electronics, and students will have the ability to contact family in case of emergency.

Electronics

Your student will need fresh clothes for the amount of days they are in attendance at the camp. We will run laundry once a week.

  • Ballet: Ballet shoes, leotards, transitional/convertible tights, hair accessories for a secure bun (each child should have their own hair bag for their bun accessories).

  • Modern: barefoot, NO SHORTS! Must have leggings or flowing pants, or athletic pants that allow your child to slide along the floor. Tank top or leotard, hair off of face and out of eyes.

  • Hip Hop: Sneakers and cool hip hop clothes (your child cannot wear pants that are too long and get stepped on).

  • Afrobeats: Same as modern.

  • Competition Jazz Leaps & Turns: Ballet clothes, but with tights rolled-up in a cuff so that the child is barefoot.

  • Additional Clothing: Swimsuit, shower shoes, sneakers (for hiking)

  • Items: Shower towel + toiletries, sunscreen, bug spray, flashlight, lantern, mini battery operated fan (ideally one that can clip or attach to a bed frame to be cooling during the night), extra batteries, alarm clock, refillable water bottle, towel for swimming.
